OCEANOGRAPHY Oceanography Merit Badge Learn about our amazing oceans, how they help us and the amazing animals and plants that live in them. We will do various experiments and activities to show the properties of water, underwater geography, how waves work and look at plankton under a microscope. We cover all requirements 1-6, 7a, 8a or 8c and 9. Scouts should complete requirement 8 before the class and be prepared to present option a, b or c. 8(a) Write a 500-word report on a book about oceanography approved by your counselor. 8(b) Visit one of the following and write a 500-word report about your visit to (1) Oceanographic research ship or (2) Oceanographic institute, marine laboratory, or marine aquarium or 8(c) Explain to your troop in a five-minute prepared speech "Why Oceanography Is Important" or describe "Career Opportunities in Oceanography." Please bring a water bottle and snacks or lunch to the class. Either Class A or B uniforms are fine. Blue card signed by instructor at the end of the class.
